Can’t hear well?

Some people have experience difficulty hearing the preacher, singing, or other people speaking in our sanctuary. The “muddiness” or lack of clarity in the sound system that some people hear (especially people that sit toward the sides and back) is the result of several factors, such as the length of the room, the height of the ceiling, the flat surfaces of the walls and windows, and the positioning of our speakers up front.

As with many things, the best solution to this frustration seems to be expensive. However, our Production Team is doing what they can to improve the sound at the mixer and by setting up “fill” speakers on the stage and half-way back against the wall.

If you are struggling to hear the speaking and preaching in the sanctuary, we encourage you to experiment with sitting in different spots to see where you hear the best. For example, the clearest sound will be in the MIDDLE of the room about 5-6 rows from the front (basically underneath the speakers). The farther away you get from the main speakers, the more “muddy" the sound gets.

Another option is to use our Assisted Listening system that will allow you to listen to the preacher, singers, and anyone else speaking directly in their ears. In order to do this, you’ll need a smartphone or iPad and hearing aids or headphones. Follow these instructions to get connected:
  1. Connect your hearing aids or headphones to your device
  2. Download “ListenWIFI” app from your app store
  3. Connect to the “Calvary Hearing” wifi network (see an usher for the password)
  4. Open the “ListenWIFI” app and select “Listen Assist” (you may have to select “Venue Scan” first)
  5. With your hearing aids or headphones connected, press play and adjust the volume on your device to hear the preacher’s microphone as well as other speakers and singers
Our church leadership is taking these steps because we highly value the singing, preaching, and teaching of Scripture. Since “faith comes by hearing” (Romans 10:17), we want everyone to hear the message as clearly as possible, especially on Sunday mornings as we exposit and preach the Bible.
